For those of you who follow me diligently on Instagram, it’s no longer big news that I could spend 4 weeks on the other side of the world. New Zealand is a truly magical country. The nature, the climate and all the other great features that Mother Nature has to offer make New Zealand so special. In this huge New Zealand travel guide, I will show you what we have discovered in 4 weeks North Island.
The trip to New Zealand has been on the list for a very long time. A little more than 2.5 years to be exact. My sister learned to love the country eight years ago. So much that she decided to emigrate 2.5 years ago. By this time I knew I had to travel to New Zealand to visit her.
Due to the advantage of having locals we know on site, we didn’t think much about what we wanted to experience. The only thing we booked was a camper van for one week. Of course we also made a to-do list, with the one or other highlight that resulted from 2h research, but nothing else.
It would probably go beyond the scope to list every little thing here. But in my Instagram Highlights you can have a closer look at everything, almost everything we have experienced and done is included. More info you’ll get soon in the outfit articles of New Zealand.
Here is a long list of our activities and sights we have visited. I can really recommend all the activities without exception. If you have any questions about specific activities, please leave me a message on Instagram.
What you need to know when travelling to New Zealand:
How much does a 4-week trip to New Zealand cost?
On average, a 4-week trip to New Zealand costs between €2,500 and €4,000 per person. This is mainly due to the fact that the flight already costs a lot of money. Of course, it depends on whether you stay in hotels, rent a camper or even stay with friends. Another factor is food that is not cheap in New Zealand. Eating out can also be a quick way to make money. Excursions, visits to museums etc. are usually associated with an entrance fee. Normally I always advise everyone who wants to save money to use public transport, but in NZ it is rare just outside the big cities. There are only long-distance buses between cities.
How much does it cost to fly to and from New Zealand?
A flight to New Zealand and back from Germany costs on average 1.200€. Of course, it depends on whether you want to fly during the holiday season, over holidays like Christmas and with which airline you fly. There are even airlines that offer flights to New Zealand for 900€. But we decided for Singapore Airlines, because the service on such a long flight is very important to me personally and I already had a lot of negative experiences with airlines, which are not rated so good in the service. Therefore our flight with a price of 1.400€ was a little bit more expensive than the average price.
How long does the flight from Germany to New Zealand take?
The average flight time from Germany to New Zealand is 21 hours. Of course, it depends on which airport you depart from in Germany and which New Zealand airport you arrive at. The flight time can be shortened or extended depending on which airport you are approaching for a stopover. That depends on the airline. Cheaper flights often have more stops than more expensive ones. We had our stopover in Singapore. The return flight often takes a little longer.
Beautiful, recommendable hotels in Auckland where we stayed:
There is no general answer here, as it depends on how comfortable you want to travel and how long you want to rent the camper. In addition, whether pick-up and pick-off locations are the same or different. However, there are already campers from 500€ per week.
When is the best time to travel to New Zealand?
That depends on what you want to do in New Zealand. If you want to travel as much as possible and experience as much as possible, early autumn or spring is certainly better. Then the best time to travel would be November and March. If you want to experience summer in New Zealand, the best time to travel is December to February. New Zealand’s winter is best experienced from July to August.
